What is and who are Harlaw Academy Parent Council?

When your child becomes a pupil at Harlaw Academy, you become part of the Parent Forum and your views are represented by your Parent Council.

At Harlaw Academy, the Parent Council consists of the Head Teacher, Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Fund Raising & Events rep and elected members. Any parent can come long and join the meetings, you do not have to be a member.

The Parent Council meets 5 times per year with other stakeholders attending; local councillors, Former Pupil Rep, etc.  Our AGM is held in May/June with the other meetings spread throughout the school year.  All parents are very welcome to attend, we will be happy to see you and you can contribute as much or as little as you like.  The meetings normally take place on a Thursday evening from 6.30-7.30pm and are currently run in a hybrid arrangement between in person and Google Meet.  Parents be notified of the next meeting via the Parent Council Facebook page, Twitter, email if they have signed up to the distribution list and a group text from the school.   Previous minutes and agenda will also be sent and can be found on the school website to give you an idea of what is discussed.

Attending Parent Council meetings is an excellent and interesting way to stay involved and keep up with information which is often not obtained from your child.  You are also free to contribute your own views.

We regularly discuss matters pertaining to education, homework, exams, Curriculum for Excellence and development planning within the school.  We are updated and can give views on staffing and organisation in the school.  Our local councillors advise us on relevant council matters including school budgets and buildings.

We would be delighted to see you at any of our meetings and if you cannot attend but have something you wish discussed, you can email the Parent Council on pcharlaw@aberdeen.npfs.org.uk or like us on Facebook and leave a message there: https://www.facebook.com/Harlawacademyparentcouncil
